Date ca. 13,000 BCE
Movement Prehistoric, Upper Paleolithic, Magdalenian
Dimensions length 23”
Location Le Tuc d’Audoubert Cave, Ariège, France
Like many cave paintings, prehistoric artists made use of natural outcrops within caves to become medium for their carvings. Though this carving makes use of a three-dimensional object, it is best viewed from one angle alone. The nearby footprints of a small child seem to dismiss the idea that religious ceremonies, if any, were adult male centric.
