Craftsmen from across the Achaemenid empire were recruited to work the furnishings of the Palace of Xerxes and Darius, including this rhyton. The artists brought with them the styles of their respective homelands, and returned with those of their foreign colleagues. The rhyton’s composition of gold helps proclaim the power of the ruler.
