Shapur I Triumphing over Roman Emperors

By presenting the emperor in true Roman fashion, Shapur I was able to make it blatantly obvious who the “barbarian” was that he had defeated, no matter who was viewing this relief, be they Persian or Roman. Shapur I maintains his Achaemenid heritage with traditional garb and war pieces.
