Temple of Solomon (reconstruction)
Date ca. 457-450 BCE
Movement Ancient Near Eastern | Hebrew
Known as the “First Temple,” this structure is believed to have contained the Ark of the Covenant, amongst other richly decorated pieces, like a pair of gilded cherubim and bronze columns. The resources used for construction are thought to have come from the Phoenicians. Destruction of the Temple occurred during a Babylonian invasion in the sixth century BCE, and the authenticity of evidence of the original structure is now highly debated.
