It is unclear as to whether or not ancient Egyptian diorite sculptures were ever painted-over, but this exceptionally well-preserved pair of a court official and his wife is the perfect example of painted limestone works. As we saw in the statue of Menkaure and His Wife, it is likely that the similarity in poses was meant to express the couple’s unity.
