Because they were often placed in mock funerary boats within tombs, abstract block statues such as this one were thought to have been the vehicle for the deceased’s ka. Here, Senenmut holds Nefrua, his pupil and the daughter of Hapshetsut. The smooth, broad planes allowed for extensive space for prayers and other inscriptions.
