The aged, worrisome look of this pharaoh represents a sharp contrast to the smooth-skinned and determined pharaohs of the Old Kingdom; however, especially given that sculptures in this era would have been paired with youthful physiques, it should be noted that this facial expression does not make this pharaoh any less powerful—if anything, it denotes the gravity of his work.
