In one of many copies of The Book of the Dead that became popular amongst the elite Egyptian class starting in the Middle Kingdom, we can see here in this continuous narrative the scribe Hunefer as he navigates the afterworld. Guided by Anubis, his heart is weighed against ma’at, while Ammut looks on and Thoth takes note; above, Hunefer testifies to upholding ma’at during his life to each of the deities portrayed, and is then guided by Horus to Osiris; above in this pavilion, Horus, in the form of the udjat eye, presents the favorable judgment of ma’at.
