Abstract figures such as these were commonplace amongst Cycladic burials. Here, an elongated body stretches to support a shield-shaped head, while a few defining features (nose, breasts, genitalia and toes) are carved subtly into the marble. These figures range greatly in size, and some even show marks of pigmentation to represent jewelry or even tattoos; regardless of scale, they seem to follow a clear, standardized canon.
