Tiryns, Greece

Tiryns, Greece

Date ca. 1400-1200 BCE

Movement Aegean | Mycenaean Period

Like the neighboring Mycenae, defense remains a primary focus at the Tiryns citadel. Twenty-foot thick walls make up the outer defense, while a narrow, sloping ramp and a set of propylons add further difficulty to any intruder’s approach; strategically placed casemates would have also provided weaponry storage, or perhaps a place for citizens to remain safe while under attack.
