Doric and Ionic Styles in Elevation

Given its rise on the mainland, it is thought that the Doric style originated from Mycenaean themes, especially with its simplistic interior floor plan that mimics those of megarons. Ionic styles, specifically those of the columns, were thought to have been adopted from the Egyptians; slender columns with vegetative capitals recall the papyrus-shaped half-columns at the funerary complex of Djoser; column flutes also appear in ancient Egyptian temples, though appear to have no functional purpose.
