This piece is composed of a number of raw materials—copper is utilized for the nipples, while the teeth are made of silver and the eyes are composed of ivory and glass paste. The sculpture’s counterpart (Riace Warrior B) is of a different body type, leading some scholars believe the pair to be made by different artists, while others believe these pieces reflect the same subject, but at different stages in life; another theory holds that these would have merely been magnificent individuals in a grander narrative scene.
