This particular work is thought to be a Roman copy of the bronze original. Like earlier Hellenistic sculptures, the one seen here extends into multiple planes, inviting the viewer to view him from all sides. Unlike in Classical battle works, Hellenistic portrayals of enemies were not depicted as brutal, mythological beasts, but were showcased as the actual enemies themselves (here, a Gaul), and nobly, adding to the triumph of the winner
