Here in the introductory, illustrated scenes of this Psalter that depicts David’s life, we see the King playing music. Interestingly, he is surrounded by personifications of Melody and the mountain of Bethlehem, along with a mountain nymph—these characters do not appear anywhere in the bible. Their presence, along with the overcrowding of the scene and the treatment of drapery, could very well indicate a Classical influence during this revivalistic time period.
