Movement Early Romanesque

Stone sculpture is revived in the Romanesque period, and its influences can be traced to Medieval metalworks; the beads over the arches, for example, form a Hiberno-Saxon pattern. Christ sits within a mandorla of two intersecting circles (Heaven and Earth); here as well, Medieval influence is at work: deep lines form the outline of his face and garments, and his face is highly stylized. Form and decoration perfectly compliment each other, with the apostles fitting snuggly within their compartments.
