This particular image from the Psalter of Blanche of Castile depicts the Crucifixion and Deposition. It is clear that narrative illustrations derived much of their inspiration from stained glass windows— here, brilliant colors are incorporated into clear geometric shapes (interlocking circles and semicircles). Even decorative patterns from cathedrals are employed—note the brilliant stars against the vivid blue background, a clear recall of the web decoration at Sainte-Chapelle.
