Bibles such as these were made for the royal court, and served as a source of moral instruction for good leaders. As with the Blanche of Castile Psalter, the illustrations were arranged much like the stained glass windows of the era—even the checkerboard pattern outside the roundels is similar to the designs at Sainte-Chapelle.
