This work was built as mirror back. Though this is a “battle” scene, we can hardly take it for one—the maidens throw flowers to the armored knights below, and while the knights yield swords, you can note that one simply gazes dreamily upward, while another even offers his sword to one of the maidens. The creamy, ivory texture and soft lines help to enforce a dreamlike scene.
