The elegant sway of the High Gothic era has been accentuated even further here, and is counterbalanced by the wide vertical lines of the Virgin’s garments. The sculpture is as elegant as it is delicate: the shining metallic surface and fleur-de-lis that the Virgin displays proclaims the piece’s royal heritage, while the touch between child and mother adds a familial intimacy.
