Witz became a master of Basel’s painters guild. As in Flemish works, an incredible amount of detail is given to the landscape (and its reflection). Christ stands upon the water’s surface, boldly outlined in his red garment against the subdued green setting; Peter appears twice, once in the fishing boat with the other apostles and again, sinking as he moves towards Christ.
