This work is the only surviving engraving of Pollaiuolo’s—here, he presents his mastery of the human anatomy with incredible detail; it is almost as if the skin of the warriors has ben shed to reveal the musculature below. This engraving was likely an advertisement displaying the artist’s skills—the inscription reads “The work of Antonio Pollaiuolo”. Though this scene is likely based off of an ancient classic, the exact text is not known.
