Though the identity of this woman is unknown, she is thought to have been connected to Lorenzo de’ Medici. Verrocchio skillfully imposed a sense of grace, elegance and whimsy, noted especially in the woman’s tilted head and expressive hands. A number of textures are created—note the voguish hair curls, soft folds in the garment and ultra-fine lines of the transparent undergarment about the subject’s neck.
