While portraits of women produced around the time of their marriage were common during this period, da Vinci breaks the mold here by placing Ginevra out of doors and with a three-quarter profile view. By utilizing the chiaroscuro technique, da Vinci is able to bring out brilliant highlights and shadows, all of which appear naturally in the same, humid atmosphere.
